On 5th March 1938, a record 75,038 fans crammed into White Hart Lane for Spurs FA Cup Quarter Final match against Sunderland (the Cup Holders)

Spurs’ Jack Gibbons thought he had scored the opener, but it was disallowed when the linesman deemed he’d handled the ball into the net.
This perfectly timed photo, seems to suggest the lino made the right call.
(No need for VAR in those days!)

Sunderland went on to score the only goal of the game and progress to the Semi Finals.

The 75,038 will forever the record White Hart Lane attendance – it was only bettered as a Spurs Home attendance record,
whilst they lodged at Wembley as the new stadium was built.
