On this day in 1982, we started the defence of the FA Cup that we’d won the previous May. Our North London rivals, Arsenal, were the team pulled out the bag and only the second FA Cup tie between the two clubs was eagerly looked forward to.

38,421 were in White Hart Lane to see the tie decided by a single Garth Crooks goal – a tame shot that squirmed under the body of our former hero, Pat Jennings, and into the net. A rare and unusual mistake from Big Pat, which saw us take our first step on the way to Wembley again where we’d successfully defend our title.

Team Line Up: Clemence, Hughton, Miller, Roberts, Perryman, Villa, Ardiles, Falco, Galvin, Hoddle, Crooks
