On this day in 1977, saw an incredible match for Spurs in their Division 2 season. Bristol Rovers were the visitors to the Lane. The match also saw a Spurs debut for new signing, Colin Lee, who had joined the club just 2 days earlier from Torquay United.
Nobody could foresee what was to follow when Rovers made their first ever league visit. Colin Lee had the dream debut, netting an amazing FOUR times, Ian Moores also bagged a hat-trick and Peter Taylor and Glenn Hoddle also chipped in with a goal a piece as the Rovers net bulged NINE times.
As luck would have it, the Match of the Day camera were present (days before every match being broadcast) and captured the rout for prosperity!
Come the end of the season, Spurs would win promotion back to the top division on goal difference – coincidentally, the margin was 9!
