On this day in 2010, saw a wonderful North London Derby comeback from the Lilywhites. 2-0 down to Arsenal at half time and having the prospect of the media’s nonstop ramming down our throats of 17 years without an away win going to go into overdrive, hadn’t accounted for Harry Redknapp’s halftime talk and the complete turnaround in the second half.
Gareth Bale lovely, calm finish within 5 minutes of the restart reduced the deficit to 2-1.
Halfway through the second half, Spurs had a dangerous freekick just outside the box – up stepped Rafael Van Der Vaart with effort on goal – but ball struck Cesc Fabregas’ deliberately raised arm in wall – ref had clear view and immediately pointed to the spot. Rafael calmly dispatched spotkick into net to draw the score level.
And with only five minutes left Younes Kaboul sent the 3,000 Spurs fans into ecstasy and reduced the vast majority of The Emirates to silence when he headed Van der Vaart’s free-kick low past Lukasz Fabianski.
